On digital housekeeping

Bantams for some reason really like being on the coop roof.  This is a hen.

Hey:  I am quite sure a lot of you all read this blog through a reader, but…I wanted to point out that the hosted blog has had a few changes made to it.  Come on over to the site and take a look.

I feel compelled to mop things up at this time of the year.  (Either that, or I’m motivated by chaos, at least temporarily:  that kitchen renovation that I mentioned is hobbling along…and it’s still needed as a kitchen.)  So.  Above, I have redone the pages (those little tab things at the top of the blog) and have done a little more ‘splainin’ about things that make this little homestead a bit unique, like Loven and the goats and the greenhouses.

There’s a tab, too, about 2011 and what it portends, farm-wise…it’s not a list of goals, just a list of the other bits of craziness that we’ve signed on to for this year.

And lastly:  I often get asked if I teach classes.  I have, but I don’t do it often enough to make it worth anyone’s while.  Fortunately I know a really wonderful woman who is a natural teacher, and whose enthusiasm and openness is a great thing to experience.  Her name is Shawna and I will have a running list of her farm’s offerings in my sidebar this year.  If you live in the area, sign up!

Different day, different bird:  Michael Jackson, daddy to the hen above, mid-crow in the morning.

  1. Thanks for the heads up about the page changes – I love my RSS, but it does mean missing out on some of these design moments 🙂 Happy New Year!

  2. I read your blog the old-fashioned way – on a webpage – as I haven’t figured out RSS yet (laziness). And I have to say, I love the new look! Brilliant layout, and I like the new header. I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and your energy on-and-off blog never ceases to amaze me!

  3. Bees! How exciting, can’t wait to here more about it/them.:)

  4. I like the new setup, the new tabs are nice. Any chance of a search function? I find in seed order season I go back through favorite blogs going “what was that bean they liked again?”

Good luck on the ongoing remodel! I know how it goes living in unfinished projects 🙂

  5. Oh how I miss living up there! We used to live in Holland and if I was still there I would definitely tap into the classes your friend is offering. Thanks for sharing about your life.

  6. It’s nice. . . Nice redesign. And a lovely way to self-distract, I’d wager.

  7. Hi Mama Bean! RSS does make it a lot easier to keep up on things, doesn’t it? (I am still on the fence if it makes my blog-reading life more productive or not though!) I hope you’re enjoying 2011 so far too.

Ah Maria. Believe me, I will bet you’re not the only reader-free reader out there…but I am glad you like the new look. I tend to feel like such a techno-avoider too: the blog is as far as I go, no twitter, no facebook, no cell phone (!) and still I survive!

Mike, I figure having my own home-grown pollinators can’t hurt, right? We’ll definitely fill you in. Tom’s so excited about his class!

Sara, I use the search box at the extreme top right to find my *own* way around the blog, but yeah, you have to be kind of specific. “beans” I am quite sure will give you at least a hundred posts on this blog…! but as you know I am a bean fool. But email works too, so, ask away when you’re curious.

JoAnn, we’d always welcome you back, you know! Come on up.

Thanks, Ms S. Ah, self-distraction, I dunno: more like it’s time to polish the silver. An unending task, yet necessary. And: it was something to do when I waited for the paint to dry!
